3/2013 to present: Senior vice president, Executive editor; The Baltimore Sun. Set newsroom vision and work as part of a senior leadership team that reports directly to the CEO. Supervise journalists at The Sun and the community newspapers and magazine division. Oversee all newsroom functions for The Sun, its websites, alternative weekly newspaper, 16 community publications and five magazines. Manage newsroom budget consistently finding savings annually through efficiencies and revamping operations to make improvements. Designed newsroom structure that is a model across Tribune company as well as other competitors outside the company. Led newsroom through major coverage of the Ravens 2013 Super Bowl Championship, the 2012 General Election, first-day-of-school shooting and more. Led innovation of new mobile sites, redesigned Web sites, niche Web sites such as gayinmaryland.com and various printed publications. The Sun was named Newspaper of the Year by the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association, competing and beating out publications such as The Washington Post. Also led efforts to secure the Freedom of Information Award by the organization in 2012. The job requires skills to work across all levels of the organization, motivating colleagues within the newsroom and other divisions in the company to better accomplish shared goals.

3/2010 to 3/2013: Head of Digital Media (also known as Managing Editor); The Sun. Managed day-to-day coverage for print, online and mobile delivery. Online audience set new records. Led BSMG’s newsrooms through the company’s successful transition to paid digital subscriptions in 2011. Led news gathering for the breaking, enterprise and investigative journalism teams. Credited with successfully bridging the print and online divisions of the newsroom and ensuring The Sun’s journalists have an array of skills to maneuver between digital and print platforms seamlessly. That structure has been modeled in other Tribune newsrooms given The Sun’s success. Under his leadership, baltimoresun.com was named Best Website during the past two years from the Maryland-Delaware-D.C. Press Association.

5/2009-3/2010: Head of Sports; The Baltimore Sun. Supervise 24 editors, reporters, columnists and news assistants. Manage daily sports coverage for print, online and mobile delivery. Online page views for sports coverage rose 10 percent compared with the previous year. Highlights of coverage during my leadership include the Preakness, Steve McNair’s murder, the Orioles, Ravens and University of Maryland Terrapins. Also responsible for balancing the department’s financial budget.

7/2008-5/2009: Business editor; The Baltimore Sun. Supervised seven reporters and managed daily business coverage, enterprise projects and the Money & Life section. Highlights of coverage during my leadership included the economic meltdown, financial turmoil at Baltimore-based Constellation Energy Group, local bank failures and the bankruptcy of Maryland racetrack owner Magna Entertainment Corp.

11/2002-7/2008: Deputy business editor; The Baltimore Sun. Supervised three reporters and the desk’s intern program. Responsible for enterprise projects and the Sunday business section. Launched or managed several specialty publications including workplace, technology, real estate and online business coverage.

8/99-11/2002: Business editor, The News Journal, Wilmington, Del. Supervised an assistant editor, seven reporters and two news assistants. Launched and managed business magazine along with daily coverage.

5/95-8/99: Reporter, The News Journal. Covered the DuPont Co., Delaware’s largest private employer. Also covered City Hall and politics.
